March 2019

We hope you’ve been surviving the crazy weather we’ve been having. But all the snow and ice can’t keep WIN Family Health from all of our fun activities  this winter season! We’ve been very busy with community events, success stories, and changes to our agency. Read on for all that we’ve been up to. Visit our website at www.winfamilyservices.org

See Us in the Community!

WIN’s popping up all over the community – county to county, event after event. We got to share our mission throughout the state and even met some incredible people on the way. The next time you go to a resource fair or community event, be sure to keep an eye out for those friendly faces wearing purple polos and come say hi!

Check out our Family Support Monitor, Kawina Thornton, and our Director of Family Support, Jasmin Cooke, stopped by the Bilingual Latino Job Fair at the Center for Educational Partnership. “We met really great people wanting to make a difference!” says Jasmin, who collected over 13 resumes. Our amazing team were able to connect with compassionate individuals who were interested in becoming Counseling Support Workers and foster parents. We were also able to connect with agencies who want to collaborate. Sounds like you’ll be seeing a lot more of WIN at other resource fairs!

A huge thank you also goes to  to Gregg and Malika for helping make our presence known at Set the Captives Free service today! We met with dozens of individuals who share our heart and are excited to join WIN as DSW’s and foster parents. We’re blessed with the gift of community and can’t wait to make thriving and lasting relationships with everyone we’ve met.

Lastly, we’ve partnered with Medmark to network with local counselors and therapists to offer our additional services. Every month you can find us at the Timonium location, stop by to say hi and grab a treat!

Enriching Lives Through Experience

WIN Team PRP works to produce enriching experiences that enhance our clients’ worldview. Part of those experiences come in the form of activities planned and scheduled for youth and adults, ranging from guest speakers, fitness classes, and finance workshops.  In the past few months, WIN Team put together events that were not only fun, but truly enriching!

Our Prince George’s County Office Hosted a Personal Hygiene and How to Tie a Tie workshop for our young gentlemen enrolled in the program. Refreshments were on hand as our males took some time to learn how to tie their own ties and dress for success. They learned just how important it is to be presentable when it comes to making great first impressions.

A Special Thank You

Who knew a trip to after school detention would turn out to be one of the greatest blessings and acts of kindness the WIN family has ever witnessed? This past holiday season we were surprised with a very generous donation from the community of Connexions Academy The biggest surprise came when we found out how the donation came about.

It all started when two students landed themselves in afternoon detention. After a long talk with their teacher, Jodi Faye, they decided that they needed to do something different. Together, with the help of staff, the students put together a fund to help benefit foster youth for the holidays. After weeks of planning and collecting, the students and their community were able to purchase Christmas gifts for over 100 of our foster youth! Thank you so much to Ms. Faye, these two wonderful students, and the entire Connexions Academy community  for your acts of kindness! You are truly changing the world!

Connection with Connexion

ConneXions is a community-based, arts-focused, charter school located in the greater Mondawmin community whose focus  is on the arts with a commitment to academic excellence, preparing students for both college and career paths.

We are excited to announce our recent partnership with ConneXions to promote the performing arts, community cultural and civic leadership, and activism. In addition to the unique and rigorous program that helps students gain expertise in fine arts, they also participate in many multicultural school and community events. We’re excited to be a part of these students’ bright future.

Family First

WIN works to create a strong family dynamic  with those we serve throughout Maryland. So when we hear families of those who DO the work commend our organization, we really take it to heart. Hear what the mother of one of our wonderful team members had to say:

“Thank you!   I would love to meet you all and give you all hugs of thanks for the awesome coworkers that you are, for supporting and encouraging Jenn not only at work but personally, emotionally and spiritually.  She talks so highly about you all.”

Thank you to Dori for her kind words and a huge thank you to our dearest Jenn for all of your hard work and compassion toward the individuals we serve!
