October 2016

The air is crisp and the trees are turning colors, Happy Fall to our newsletter readers!

Just as any season, WIN Family Services has been busy with activities and projects geared toward customer service and growth. We are excited to share with our readers all that we've been up to and the progress we have made as a family!

It's Game Time!

We have some of the mostdedicated and hardworking individualshere at WIN Family Services. While there is absolutely no way we can adequately express how appreciative we are, we try to offer unique and fun experiences for our staff and their families.

You’re not from Maryland if you don’t lovefootball season. We were able to share our gratitude with one of our amazing team members –Louis Martin. Time and time again, Louis exemplifies true talent and dedication to this line of work. His infectious enthusiastic spirit is enjoyed by all and we are so excited that our CEO, Al Laws Jr., surprised him withpre-season tickets for the Ravens. Mr. Louis took time to share his experience at the game with all of us,

“I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who blessed me with opportunity to attend the Ravens game on Saturday. I had the pleasure of attending the game with my oldest son who is 9 years old.  I must tell you all that I haven’t seen him that excited in a long time. I surprised him by not letting him know until we were on the highway.  I asked him to wear a purple shirt before we left the house but he refused.  Well, I brought It along anyway.
When he found out we were headed to the Ravens game, he immediately grabbed the purple shirt and threw it on.   It was his first experience viewing an NFL game in person and it was so much fun.  The moment we sat down, his quote “Daddy, these are some good seats!!!”  A gentleman who sat behind us saw our interaction during the game as I explained different nuances of the game.  He wasnearly in tearsas he explained how it reminded him of attending Colts and Orioles games with his father who is now deceased.

My son and I are so grateful for the opportunity to spend quality time together because of the generosity of the agency.  I was able to highlight some important lessons to him regarding the value of service and hard work.  He was so impressed that our agency would give its employees a gift to show their appreciation for its staff.  Thank you Mr. Laws.  And Thank you to the WIN family.”

ThankYOU, Mr. Martin for your exemplary service to our agency.

A Successful Start to the Year

Another school year has started and we all know what that means! In all the hustle and bustle of beginning another year, getting schedules straight, getting clothes for the upcoming season, get new this and new that, there is always a mad rush for new school supplies. The clients of WIN Family Services are no different. With the excitement of a new school year, comes the excitement of fresh supplies and starting the year off just right. Thankfully, we had angels that assisted us in ensuring the success of our youth. A special THANK YOU goes toDeacon Denise Martin and Upon this Rock Church
as well asVictoria Jackson and MSC Shipping Company for their VERY generous donation of school supplies. The book bags, notebooks, folders, pens and pencils were distributed to both our therapeutic foster care program and psychiatric rehabilitation program in all three regions(Baltimore, Lanham, and Port Deposit). Thanks to the kindness and support of these establishments, we were able to begin a new school year with confidence!

A WINning Team!

Here at WIN Family Services our core values areGodliness, Teamwork, Excellence, and Service (GETS). We are blessed to work with talented and compassionate individuals who truly exemplify what the WIN spirit really is about. Read below about just some of the amazing individuals we work with:

“Ibi (Attiko)did an amazing thing yesterday by assisting another team with securing a trial placement for a client that has been having a rough time with permanency after being removed from his initial foster home... After hearing about the client's present challenges, the respite parent agreed to support the client and I'm not sure if the client has been made aware yet, but I'm sure this will be a positive ray of light during these difficult times. The respite parent provided much needed structure, love, guidance, and encouragement to the youth, and the youth responded. I can't wait to see the gains made by this youth with this placement. Great Job Ibi!!"
-Marlon Sullivan
Zimmy (Sutton)she has responded professionally and with excellent customer service even though I know she has a full plate of other tasks to perform; Zimmy is utilizing her skills. Zimmy, I appreciate your quick, thorough, professional attention to these priority task requests."
-Linda Parks

"Chris (Ulysses Hardy)was able to exemplify the true spirit of team work by positively encouraging his peers and colleagues to work together for the betterment of the team and by extension the youth and families that we serve. Chris proactively informed the team to have resolutions to whatever issues or concerns they may bring forth. To witness Chris take this new endeavor and help cultivate the groundwork of the meeting was very inspiring. He modeled excellence, the team took notice and commended him as well."
